This morning was a big step, I took the first step into sharing yoga with strangers.  They were standing at the top of their mats looking to me to tell them which foot to put where and what to do with their arms.  I took my first yoga class today as the teacher.  It was nerve-racking, exciting, daunting but once you step onto the mat as the teacher you have to keep going, and present as best a class as you can.

I tried to calm the nerves at the start of the class when everyone was lying back with their eyes closed focussing on their breath.  I spent this time tapping into my own breath.

It’s funny, in your head you can easily explain a pose, how to get into it, the contraindications, the benefits, but the minute you’re on the mat – all of that knowledge ‘conveniently’ escapes you.

After svasasana I thanked the class, told them that I had just graduated as a teacher and if there was any feedback I’d really appreciate it.  The feedback was all positive, lots of encouragement, everyone was very lovely.

So to those 8 or so people who were in the class this morning, I don’t know your names, but thank you for sharing an hour of your time with me this morning.  That hour for you was probably just another yoga class, for me it was an experience that I wont forget in a hurry.

Onto the next challenge – class number two.
